Day 1and1/2 in Kenya

After 23ish hours of traveling, we finally arrived in Nairobi.  Not knowing what it was going to be like after the fire in the international terminal and closed.  The airport should be commended for how well they handled everything.  It went very smooth.  So the drivers pick us up and took us to hotel for the night to rest for the 7 hour drive to Migori the next day.  Roads were rough with the biggest speed humps I've ever seen and there were a ton of them.  The pot holes were just like back home, so no problem there.  Stopped off at a view point that was high above the beginning of the Serengeti.  Quite a sight to see, I'll post pics later as the internet here is very spotty and pics take too long to load.  Drove through many towns that were full of people, markets and farm animals.  All the wildlife seen so far was just cows and goats, until we ran up on a pack of Baboons, yes baboons, just waking along both sides of the road.  Didn't pay us any attention at all.  Unlike every kid we saw along the side of the road just waved and waved and hollered out "Masoonga"  which come to find out means white person.  We finally arrived at our destination Brittney House.  This will be our home for the duration.  If was just after dark and many kids were anticipating our arrival and had juice and hot towels for us to wash up after a long drive.  It took a little longer than we thought, but we stopped several times.  On to a much needed good nights rest, until I couldn't go to sleep, we are 8 hours ahead of home so I was still on central time.  Well I finally got to sleep around 2:30 or so only to be awoken by a crazy rooster that was about 3 hours off at 3:30!  And he didn't stop.  I'm really hoping to have chicken on the menu this week, a very specific chicken!  Tomorrow we meet and play with the children after a tour of the orphanage, then go to church with them.  Of course I say tomorrow when it's actually today since that rooster has me up!!

Note to self, don't wait till day before to start getting ready for a 2 and 1/2 week African trip!  Interesting enough I woke up about 3 am and saw and email from the President of Kenya Relief telling me there was a fire at the Nairobi airport and all flights would be cancelled or diverted.  Not so sure I'm going back to sleep tonight.  No cause of fire is determined yet, so no cause for alarm either.  Still can't believe I'm leaving about 36 hours.  Anyway I'll see what i can do about keeping up with a blog on my trip.   BTW, the title of the blog means Hello Kenya in swahili.  I'll try to post some pics as I can.
